Artist Statement
Hugo Jimenez is a creative technologist from Marin County, whose primary areas of practice include photography, digital design, and drawing. Hugo draws on his interests in Zen Buddhism and surrealism to explore ideas of perception and emotion. His creative process is intuitive and experimental, often beginning with abstract sketches/ideas that evolve organically into finished pieces. He primarily works in Procreate and Adobe software, finding freedom in the ability to move between mediums. A central theme throughout his work is the use of nature as a source of inspiration, informing his artistic process and shaping his compositions across various media.
Hugo’s impact as an artist lies in his ability to translate emotion into visual form. His signature designs—often characterized by swirling black lines—convey both movement and energy, inviting viewers to interpret them through their own lenses. In photography, his approach favors unedited compositions that highlight authenticity.

Growing up surrounded by nature, Hugo came to see it as both a sanctuary and a source of creative inspiration. Patterns, such as fractals and the energy of the natural world, inform his artistic process, shaping his compositions across various media. Hugo has earned two associate’s degrees from the College of Marin—one in Business Management Economics and one in Economics—and is currently completing his senior year at the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he is pursuing a degree in Creative Technologies. His education has not only improved his technical skills but also deepened his understanding of how creativity, design, and technology intersect.
